There are so many options for drummers nowadays that were not available years ago. I can only imagine what our drumming fore-fathers did with only calf drum heads, up in to the late 50's. We do know they needed to put light bulbs inside the drums to keep the calf heads tight.

Not until the mid 50's when mylar heads were invented, did drummers start to have options. The manufacturing of mylar drum heads makes tuning drums a much easier job.

The tool we use to tune drum heads is our trusty "Drum Key", which since the 20's has been a simple device. In the last 10 years the drum key has evolved into a useful and more precise drum tuning device.
